FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - SENIOR TRANSPORTATION
Here are some of the frequently asked questions we receive regarding the Senior Transportation Program. This information does not apply to ADA Paratransit Services operated by OUTREACH. For information regarding ADA Paratransit Services, please call: (408) 436-2865
Q: What benefits does the Senior Transportation Program provide?

A: The Senior Transportation Program provides basically three types of benefits, depending on the transportation alternatives available to a senior:

Paratransit Service Rider's Fare Subsidies: for those individuals enrolled in the ADA Paratransit Service program, the Senior Transportation Program provides a limited number of rider's fare subsidies that reduce the cost of a paratransit service ride.
Public Transit Passes: or those seniors who use public transit as their usual means of travel, the Senior Transportation Program provides subsidized monthly passes/stickers for seniors who have Regional Transit Connection cards.
Subsidized Taxi/Non-Taxi Services: for those seniors who are not eligible for paratransit services and can not reach their destinations using public transit, the Senior Transportation Program provides door-to-door transportation services. Please note that this service has limited resources and may not be able to honor all requests for services. Additionally, riders may be required to share their vehicle with another program participant.
For ADA Paratransit Service riders: rider’s fare subsidies of $1.50 per trip, up to a maximum of 60 trips. For Public Transit (VTA bus and light rail service) riders: up to 2 free monthly public transit stickers (riders must have a current RTC card to qualify) For seniors who are not eligible for ADA Paratransit Services and for whom public transit is not effective solution: up to 40 free one-way taxi rides.

Q: Who is eligible for Senior Transportation Program services?
A: Santa Clara County residents 65 years of age or older. NOTE: there are no income eligibility requirements for this program Eligibility is effective for one program year (July through June). You will be required to apply each year to qualify for benefits. New applicants will receive priority for services.

Q: How do I apply for Senior Transportation Program services?
A: Call program staff at (408) 436-2865, extension 275 and request an application. The one-page application must be returned along with proof of your age. Proof of your age may consist of a copy of your driver’s license, ID card, passport, Medicare-Aged card or similar document.

Q: How does the Taxi/Non-taxi Program work?
A: Rides must be scheduled at least one-day in advance. You may schedule rides up to 3 days in advance. Scheduling is available Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5pm. You may be required to share the vehicle with other riders. You may take one companion with you on a trip. A limited number of rides are provided each day and not all ride requests may be accepted. Riders are discouraged from “tipping” the drivers. Each quarter, riders are provided with a total of the trips taken and asked for a voluntary Rider’s Fare of $4.00 per trip. The Rider’s Fare is completely voluntary and a rider’s ability or inability to make a contribution to our program will not affect their benefits.
Q: When can I travel?
A: You may travel any day of the year including weekends and all holidays. Service is available from 6am through 9pm. If you need to travel at a time outside of these hours, please contact us to determine whether your request can be accommodated.

Q: Where can I go?
A: You may travel to any destination within Santa Clara County. Please note that health/medical trips receive priority for scheduling, space permitting.
